Frequently Asked Questions

What can a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist do for me?

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I can help individuals, couples, and families identify, explore, and resolve interpersonal relationship issues. At Inner Balance, my goal is to help you rediscover your own voice – not to tell you what to do or to simply give you advice. As a relational specialist, I help you to become more aware of yourself and how you relate to others.

Why might I consider therapy?

Psychotherapy is an important component of any health and wellness plan. People often seek out a therapist because they have a more objective viewpoint than friends and family. At Inner Balance I can help you see difficult issues in a new light, and find solutions that may not have occurred to you.

What kind of services do you offer?

As a trained relational specialist, I offer sessions for individuals, couples, and families. I also offer various group sessions and workshops. Please see my services page for more information.

Do you accept insurance?

I have chosen to operate Inner Balance on a fee-for-service basis. Paying personally for treatment gives you maximum protection and choice over your care. Managed care providers will not have access to your personal records and confidential information on file. Some clients at Inner Balance choose to submit to their insurance provider or flexible spending account to be reimbursed for our services. In these cases, I will work with you to make sure that only necessary and pertinent information is shared with your insurance provider. At Inner Balance I believe that everyone should be allowed to benefit from the therapeutic experience. Please call me with any questions regarding my fees. For your convenience I accept major credit cards, cash and check.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. If together we decide that medications are necessary I will refer you to a licensed psychiatrist for an evaluation.

Will my information be kept confidential?

As a mental health professional I am bound by the rules and regulations of the Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). I will not disclose any personal information without your written authorization, except when required or permitted by law.

How long does therapy usually last?

I believe that determining the length of treatment is a cooperative process. While some clients find it useful to be engaged in treatment long-term, others feel it is helpful to attend just a few sessions. At Inner Balance I understand that my client’s time is valuable so I will check in with you every few sessions to make sure the process is going the way you want/were expecting.

What do you charge for your services?

Fees vary based on our programs and treatment methods. I would be happy to discuss these and coordinating fees with you over the phone. Payment will be due when you arrive, prior to the start of your session. For your convenience I accept cash, credit cards, debit cards, and personal checks. Currently I am offering special treatment packages for new clients. Call me for more information!

What do I do in case of an emergency?

While we all define emergency differently, if you feel your safety or the safety of someone else is at risk call 911 before contacting anyone else. If a serious therapeutic issue has arisen and you feel that it cannot wait until the next scheduled session, leave a message on my voicemail and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.

What is your cancellation policy?

I encourage you to attend all scheduled appointments. However, I ask that if you must cancel please do so at least 48 hours in advance. Adequate notice allows me to use your cancelled session to help someone that needs it. If you fail to give me 48 hours notice, you will be responsible for the full cost of your session.
